Description
Italian 500 Lire coin issued in 1974 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the birth of Guglielmo Marconi. The obverse features the left-facing bust of Guglielmo Marconi with the inscription REPVBBLICA ITALIANA and the engraver’s names GIAMPAOLI MONASSI INC •. Designed by Pietro Giampaoli. The reverse depicts Italy and neighboring countries, topped by concentric circles symbolizing radio waves emitted from radio towers on the Peninsula. The design includes the denomination L 500, mintmark R, and centenary dates 1874–1974. Inscription: GVGLIELMO MARCONI. Mintage: 689,752 pieces, struck only in Brilliant Uncirculated quality.
