Description
1814 commemorative medal marking the entry of Gebhard Leberecht von Blücher into Paris. The obverse shows facing busts of Prince Schwarzenberg and Blücher with the detailed inscription:
DES DEUTCHEN VOLKS UNSTEBBLICHE HELDEN UND ZIERDEN HATZBACH MOCKERN LEIPZIG BRIENE LAON HULM LEIPZ BARSUR AUBE FERECHAMP MONTM: R P S BLÜCHER SCHWARZENBERG (“The German people’s immortal heroes and pride” followed by a list of battle names).
The reverse depicts the Arch of Paris with victorious armies entering, the goddess of Paris presenting the city’s key. Inscription reads:
DIE DEUTSCHEN BRÜDER FÜR FRIEDEN U. VATERLAND SIEGR: P. TEDE PARIS PFEUFFER IN PARIS DEN 31. MAERZ 1814 (“The German brothers for peace and fatherland, victorious in Paris, Pfeuffer in Paris, 31 March 1814”).
Engraved by Christoph Carl Pfeuffer and minted in 1814 to commemorate the Allied victory over Napoleon and the symbolic transfer of Paris.
